Dear readers,

As you know, we have decided to test the swirl injector concept for BPM100 in a BPM5 scale. We believe it increases the likelihood of landing a good BPM100 design and avoiding an engine failure in the first test.

We can, in principle produce these swirlers ourselves, but with our modest machine park, it will be with some slack. When trying to get a uniform flow and mass distribution in the combustion chamber, uniformity and tolerances are quite important. We’re therefore extremely pleased that PH Spaanteknik has offered to produce the swirlers for us. We therefore sent a couple of drawings to Henrik from PH Spaanteknik and he has now started his very big Mazak Integrex 200i. A huge machine for such a small item, but it ensures that we get some fine tolerances on the parts.

In addition to milling the parts, Henrik also recorded some video that I’ve put together so that you can see some of the manufacturing process. Big thanks to Henrik for his time, both with the machine and the camera!

As you can see, Henrik has now produced the first parts for us. As soon as they arrive in Copenhagen, they will be silver soldered together, so we can get them flow tested. It will be super exciting!

Very cool. I expected it to be faster. And it’s just one piece, very cool. I expected it to be two nested pieces.
